ED'S BIO

With over 37 years of progressive experience spanning both public practice and industry, Ed Vandeven is recognized as a seasoned leader in accounting and finance.  As CFO, he spearheads financial operations and strategy.  Working closely with executive leadership, Ed brings forth strategic insights and resources, adeptly identifying business opportunities and assessing associated risks.  With an unwavering commitment to excellence and a steadfast dedication to driving organizational success, Ed Vandeven continues to shape the financial landscape, propelling businesses towards sustainable growth and prosperity.

Experience

Ed has been a CFO since 2012 and had the privilege of working in world class finance functions since the inception of his career.


His experience spans positions in billion-dollar corporations, mid-range & small companies and startup ventures in technology, financial services, industrial services and transportation.


  • Ed began his career in public accounting with PricewaterhouseCoopers with an emphasis in manufacturing.
  • Ed's progression in corporate accounting started with Kellwood, a former client and then a leading international manufacturer, marketer and merchandiser of apparel and recreational soft goods, where he rotated through financial systems, tax, financial reporting and corporate accounting.
  • In 2000 Ed further honed his full cycle operational accounting expertise at Edward Jones, with an emphasis on accounting processes and controls.
  • In 2006 Ed shifted to financial analysis with XTRA Lease, a Berkshire Hathaway company and the nation’s largest over-the-road trailer lessor with operations in the United States and Canada.
  • In Ed’s inaugural CFO role with ATS, Ed led immediate turnaround in profitability by establishing operating margin goals and aligning bids with corporate objectives.  Joined mid-year 2012 in midst of a significant pre-tax loss and by 2013 had improved earnings to profitability, a $2.4 million turnaround or 2.4% of sales. Trailing twelve-month EBITDA improved 800% in less than four years. Initiated new sales strategy and negotiation approach with existing customer base, contributing to an approximately 50% improvement in gross profit on targeted accounts. Directed the executive cost review to provide liquidity for business expansion, resulting in cost savings of over 1% of sales without impacting service delivery.  Provided capital and liquidity for growth by converting to new banking relationships in the US and Canada, negotiating credit agreements that increased access to funds by 200%.  Reduced accounts receivable DSO by 20%.
  • At Marcone Appliance Parts the finance function seamlessly integrated two business combinations in a 10-month period.  Restructured employee benefit plan providers to improve claims management and facilitate value-based care while decreasing cost 14%.  Provided firsthand leadership and direct involvement in negotiating contracts resulting in double-digit percentage reductions across diverse areas.  Led finance component of sales growth & cost management strategy that reduced operating expense by 60bps.
  • With Gardner Capital Ed assessed, designed, formed, and managed a captive insurance solution projected to generate a mid-six figure return in the first year while lowering portfolio expense by 21%.  Reduced portfolio audit and tax compliance costs while improving service and expediting CFD.  Reduced real estate tax cash outlays in the low six figures.  Lowered 401(k) plan compliance costs by 50% while improving advisory services and reducing fiduciary risk.
  • While at US Cloud Ed drove sequential EBITDA margin improvement of 323% on 59% sales increase in ’24 and 168% on 51% ’23.  Increased borrowing capacity 600%.  Implemented new revenue recognition protocol to comply with GAAP, increasing ’22 EBITDA in the low 7-figures. Created the first budget & forecasting process to balance profit-focused decisions with operational priorities.  Implemented a contracts management operation to reduce executive involvement and improve MSA, SOW and NDA content & protocols. Upgraded Sage financial system to enhance accounting operations and forestall headcount growth.
